ZR Tyres supports Wrathall for Silverstone

25th September 2013

With a fresh 2-litre turbocharged Toyota powerplant under the bonnet of his Dynojet Racing Avensis, Frank Wrathall is hoping for strong results on the power-hungry straights of Silverstone this weekend (28/29 Sep) as he bids for a return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship podium.

He says that an improved qualifying performance will be key: "We need to be back in the top 10 in qualifying. We have lost qualifying performance over the last couple of rounds and we need to get that back, because starting too far down the order puts you on the back foot."

It is a testament to the reliability of Wrathall's Toyota engine, which is tuned by specialist race engineering firm X CTech R, that he has raced without problem all year on the same unit. "We've put another engine in purely because the previous one had reached its allotted mileage after being used and abused all year. It has been installed and we tested at Mallory Park last week to check that everything was running right - Mallory is a good place to check for problems like oil starvation, because of the high G-forces you pull at some corners. Everything tested well, and fingers crossed for Silverstone."

Wrathall qualified well at Silverstone last year, bagging third on the grid on the 1.6-mile National circuit, which is notorious for its long and punishing straights. Says Frank: "A lot of it is about how well your engine is performing. The Wellington Straight is such a long one. if your engine is strong then you'll be in a good position. We were quick at Silverstone in 2012 and hopefully we can repeat that, but as always it's a question of how our car performs on the day compared with everyone else's."

Frank has qualified inside the top eight on five occasions this season, and bagged a front-row start slot at Donington Park.
