Dynojet Ready For A Change in Luck At Oulton Park
Frank Wrathall, the Dynojet Racing team and their sponsors ZR Tyres Lincoln are looking for an upswing in their BTCC fortunes this weekend as the championship resumes at their home circuit of Oulton Park. After a month of investigative work on the squad's Toyota Avensis challenger, they believe that they've never been in better shape.
We've shown the pace this season but for one reason or another things haven't all come together for us on race day. I'm hoping that Oulton will see a change in our fortunes and that I can get three good race results under my belt," said Frank, who endured a frustrating time last month at Thruxton.
We've had a full day testing at Donington Park, and that went very well and helped us get to the bottom of the problems we were having at Thruxton. We traced it to damage to the shock absorbers, probably caused by hitting the kerbs early on in the meeting. It explains a lot of our issues.
Wrathall has been one of the stars of qualifying in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this season - he bagged a front-row grid slot at Donington Park - but so far he has banked only a trio of top-eight race finishes. He's 13th overall in the drivers championship and 10th in the Independents Trophy.
I haven't scored the points I would have liked, so I'm hoping that there will be a change of luck for us this weekend. I love Oulton Park, and not just because it is our home circuit. There is always a massive crowd and a great atmosphere. I didn't do too well there last year - we ‘turned the corner' with the new car after the Oulton Park and Croft events - so the Toyota we are taking there this time is a very different machine and, I hope, a lot more competitive.
Frank has a busy couple of months ahead: two weeks after Oulton Park come the Croft rounds of the BTCC, and then in mid-July he and his Avensis will take pride of place on the Toyota display at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed. At the end of July, Wrathall will step back in time to compete at the Silverstone Classic at the wheel of a 17-year-old BTCC Vauxhall Cavalier.
It's the same car in which Frank claimed pole position last year in the Silverstone Super Touring Trophy and then raced to Class B honours in both races. He can't wait to have another go: "Last year's Silverstone Classic was one of the best motor sport events I've ever been to. For a modern day driver like me to be able to race a Super Touring car was just amazing. We really didn't know what to expect last year as the car was only just finished in time and it hadn't been run in years. So to put it on pole position by nearly two and a half seconds was a massive achievement.
The Dynojet Racing team is backed by Mac Tools, FUCHS Titan Race, Toyota Material Handling, Klenzan, Dyno Drive, Angel Springs, K&N and Graphix.
